The first detail of Ange and Brent's rural Australian wedding to catch our eye were images of Ange's incredible sequined and holographic dress. Intrigued, we continued flipping through images of this couple's silver sequined platforms, luscious florals and "unicorn magic" cake until it was clear - we were obsessed with every aspect of this one-of-a-kind wedding day! Luckily, Ange and Brent (who are as happy, creative and funny as their wedding would have you believe) were kind enough to sit down with us and share details and stories from their sparklier-than-life nuptials.
Ange and Brent met at a house party called 'the barn' and knew from the start that their wedding, like their relationship, should be zany, creative and a big, fun party. As a recent fashion design graduate and owner of her own label EWOL, Ange claims she knew from the start that she would be designing her own gown. "My inspiration was sequins, holographic and everything sparkly," she shares, and her dress was exactly as described. "I had the pattern made by an amazing pattern maker called Angela (coincidence) who has her own wedding brand. I then sat down for about 12 hours straight and sticky taped sequins to the pattern which was then sent away to India to be embroidered." The finished product was an amazing, one-of-a-kind bespoke gown that radiated sexiness and glamour. "I really wanted something so nontraditional that was border line obscene. I'm not going to lie though," Ange admits. "At one point I was really worried it would look tacky and no one would get it, especially when I wanted a holographic cape. But thankfully it just 'worked'."
For the rest of their wedding details, Ange and Brent continued to collaborate with local vendors and friends to pull off a party where people could relax, have fun and be inspired by all the creative energy. "Creativity was big thing for me," Ange shares. "I literally let the vendors do whatever they liked. We gave them a general feel but then I let them do whatever they liked and the outcome was outstanding. We wanted it to be very relaxed, fun and super interactive - hence the festival-like feel with music and a golfing range, giant jenga and of course a pretty big dance floor."
The venue of their spectacular event was Bushbank in Kiama, Australia with 360 views of the rolling countryside all around. Wildflower Florist provided the bouquets, complete with glitter, phenomenal color and hanging foliage galore. Ange's friend Taz of Taz's Treats went crazy and created a vegan cake that the bride herself described as looking like a "unicorn on steroids", and the couple's friend Dean of Dean Snushall Photography provided stunning images of the day.
When looking back at favorite memories of their wedding day, Ange laughs over the moment Brent finally saw her dress and gave her the smile that assured her that he loved it - a great relief to the bride who oftentimes worried her groom with how crazy her design methods might get. Luckily, there were nothing but smiles on the faces of the everyone on what Ange dubbed "an amazingly lovey-dovey day".
For other couples planning destination weddings, Ange offered up some fantastic advice on how to make sure your big day goes as smoothly as possible: "Try and get to know your vendors, let them be creative PLEASE. Don't try and control the entire wedding, let people do their creative thing but also take offered help from friends and family. And don't sweat the small things, the most important thing is that you are going to marry that special person regardless of weather it rains, or something goes wrong. So just enjoy it. And yes it does go fast, so enjoy every moment and screw the hair after the photos, dance like Beyoncé in 'Lemonade'."
Fantastic advice, if we do say so ourselves.
