Philippa Thomas decided to become a celebrant when planning her own New Zealand wedding five years ago. Overjoyed at the prospect of “celebranting” (a term she cheekily coined) the marriages of couples of every age, background, religion, and ethnicity, Phillipa has a way of putting everyone around her at ease. She is proud of her own Māori heritage and is passionate about weaving in any language or culture into a ceremony. Inclusion, equality, and joy are the hallmarks of her craft and every interaction is marked by aroha, a traditionally Māori expression of love.
