A COUNTRY ESTATE CENTERED AROUND MICHELIN STARRED DINING

On the border of Provence near the Alps, in a region known as ‘Haute Provence’, sits the sleepy, charming town of Chateau-Arnoux. Unbeknownst to many, this is where one of the region’s finest hotels and restaurants is located – La Bonne Etape. The heart and soul of this family-owned establishment is Michelin star chef Jany Gleize. Inspired by the hotel’s vegetable garden and using quality local meat and fish, Jany Gleize’s cuisine reinvents some of the classic Provençal recipes made by his grandmother Gabrielle. We especially enjoyed his famous lavender honey ice cream, served in a honeycomb – it’s truly one of the most memorable experiences of any trip to Provence!

The hotel itself can only be described as the epitome of French country chic. Thoughtfully decorated with antiques and family heirlooms, it seems almost untouched from another era. The grounds are quiet and delightfully unassuming, with the warmth and energy of the property emanating from the kitchen. For our foodie couples, we recommend booking a private cooking lesson with Chef Jany for a bachelor or bachelorette party. Intimate weddings are also well-suited to La Bonne Etape, as the estate can cater and host up to one hundred guests (who are sure to be among the most well-fed visitors to Provence).
